As the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2025 moves into knockout territory, eight teams remain in the hunt for the trophy. From established contenders like France and Belgium to rising forces like Lithuania and Germany, the quarter-finals promise contrasting styles, elite talent, and no shortage of intrigue. Here's how each matchup lines up—and why you’ll want to be locked in from the opening tip.
France vs Lithuania – Tuesday, June 24 at 16:30 CEST
France arrive in the quarters as one of the tournament’s most feared teams. Undefeated in Group A, they swept past Greece, Turkiye and Switzerland behind Janelle Salaün’s scoring, with Valeriane Ayayi perfectly complementing the Valkyries’ forward’s game. Iliana Rupert, with her mix of size and skill, remains a steady two-way presence and a real threat in the high-low game.
But Lithuania have been one of the surprise stories of the tournament. Justė Jocytė, the 19-year-old phenom, has delivered in every game-putting up 15.7 points per contest and creating for teammates with 5.7 assists per game. This will be her toughest test yet, but Lithuania’s belief is growing.
Lithuania may enter as underdogs, but they’re not here to make up the numbers - they’ve shown they can punch above their weight, and France will need to earn every possession.
Italy vs Türkiye – Tuesday, June 24 at 19:30 CEST
Italy topped a competitive Group B and arrive in Piraeus with momentum. Cecilia Zandalasini continues to be their emotional and tactical leader, combining a top-5 scoring output with composed decision-making. Around her, the likes of Lorela Cubaj and Jasmine Keys have added balance and depth on both ends of the floor.
Türkiye’s route to the quarter-finals has been more turbulent - but no less dangerous. Teaira McCowan has been unstoppable in the paint, leading the tournament in rebounds and drawing double-teams almost every trip down the floor. They’ll need contributions from Sevgi Uzun and the perimeter group to space the floor and punish any help. This one has the makings of a true half-court grind.
Türkiye won’t have made any friends after eliminating hosts Greece on Saturday, so we’ll know who will have the support of the Peace and Friendship stadium on Tuesday night.
Spain vs Czech Republic – Wednesday, June 25 at 16:30 CEST
Spain’s young core has grown into the tournament. Iyana Martín and Awa Fam, both just 19, have impressed with maturity, while Raquel Carrera gives them rebounding stability and composure in close games. They cruised through Group D behind Alba Torrens’ leadership and look ready to contend deep into the bracket.
Czech Republic, second in Group C, will lean on their experience. Veronika Voráčková, a EuroLeague champion with USK Praha, is a shotmaker and floor-spacer, while Julie Reisingerová provides presence inside. Spain have looked more explosive, but the Czechs won’t be rattled. If they control pace and hit early shots, this could go the distance.
Belgium vs Germany – Wednesday, June 25 at 19:30 CEST
The defending champions, Belgium have looked composed from the outset. Emma Meesseman is once again the centrepiece -efficient, dominant, and rarely flustered. She’s supported by a savvy group including Kyara Linskens, Julie Vanloo and Maxuella Lisowa-Mbaka, giving Belgium both shooting and structure.
Germany enter their first women’s EuroBasket quarter-final with confidence. Leonie Fiebich brings length and three-point range, while Luisa Geiselsoder and Frieda Buhner have taken the spotlight and excelled in the group stage. This game pits Belgium’s control and spacing against Germany’s athleticism and upside. If Fiebich or co catch fire, an upset isn't out of the question.
