Pinar defeat Strasbourg, DeWayne Russell shines in Oldenburg's first BCL win

Pınar Karşıyaka – SIG Strasbourg 87-72 Recap & Game Highlights 

Pınar Karşıyaka succeeded in obtaining advantage in the tiebreaker with SIG Strasbourg as they secured a 15-point win against previously unbeaten SIG Strasbourg, the exact margin they needed to match the point differential in the reverse fixture. 

Ufuk Sarica’s unit was determined to start quickly off the blocks, as they secured a 10-point lead with 4 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter (31-21). Key to the win was the performance on the offensive boards, where Pinar outrebounded Strasbourg 12-5, securing 14 second-chance points to the visitors’2. 

In the lead for 38 minutes, Vernon Carey Jr and teammates didn’t give SIG Strasbourg a chance and quickly focused on securing the 15-point margin they needed. The Turkish fans had to wait until the last moment of the game, when Vernon Carey Jr. Added a 2nd assist to his 19 points and 8 boards while Kelan Martin converted from deep to secure advantage in the tiebreaker for Pinar Karsiyaka. 

For the visitors, Phil Booth scored 20 points again, shooting 8/13 from the field and distributing 6 assists. The former Wildcat extended his streak of games with 15+ points to four, the first time in his BCL career. 

However,However, this effort was not enough to overcome Pınar Karşıyaka's dominance. SIG Strasbourg’s fans will be disappointed, having conceded first place (although temporarily) at the very last moment.

Igokea m:tel – UCAM Murcia 63-79 Recap & Game Highlights 

A spectacular 33-point 2nd quarter propels UCAM Murcia to 3-1 in Group H of the Basketball Champions League as they take the win in Laktaši. 

The Universitarios scored over 50 points in back-to-back games for the first time in consecutive BCL games, with another solid performance from Ludvig Hakanson (15 + 5 assists) and 16 off the bench with 4 triples by David Jelinek. The dynamic duo led Murcia’s 2nd unit, outscoring the Bosnians’ bench 31-60. 

Igokea, in control for large parts of the first quarter with a biggest lead of 9 points, was led as usual by Nikola Tanaskovic’s 14 points, but Stefan Moody struggled, shooting 4/13 from the field and turning the ball over 4 times.

EWE Baskets Oldenburg – Filou Oostende 81-64 Recap & Game Highlights

 

DeWayne Russell’s 17 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists pushed EWE Baskets Oldenburg to get their first win over the line, interrupting a long 8-game losing streak in the BCL. 

Dominating the paint, Oldenburg outscored the visitors 30-16 and controlled the game for large parts of the game, leading for 32 minutes and ending the game with a 17-points margin. 

The Germans were confident they could run away with the game after ending the first half with a 14-point lead (48-34) but an 11-0 run by the Belgians brought Oostende back within three points of Oldenburg (53-50). 

Geno Crandall and Ebuka Izundo responded with back-to-back triples to get EWE Baskets Oldenburg back with a comfortable distance and see off the game. Crandall added 18 points in 20 minutes off the bench, while Izundu scored 13 and grabbed 5 rebounds. 

For the visitors, Pierre-Antoine Gillet scored 19 and Sam Van Rossom added 10 points in a tough night on the road.

POAK mateco – SL Benfica 76-74 Recap & Game Highlights 

In a back and forth game, with 13 lead changes the POAK bench was the difference in a tight finish that saw the Greek side come out on top in a thrilling finish.  

After a slow start that saw POAK trial 11-1 but this rectified with their own 10-0 run in the second quarter. From there the match was finely balanced until Benfica’s scoring deserted them at the worst possible time in the 4th quarter allowing POAK to seal the game. Undoubtled the POAK bench made the difference delivering 57 points in the night, with Laurynas Beliauskas top scoring with 20 in under 21 minutes on the court.  


 
Despite a performance that saw Aaron Broussard make 20 points, 7 assists and a single rebound he was unable to turn the game in the Portuguese club’s favour.

Bursaspor Info Yatirim – Hapoel Holon 74-93 Recap & Game Highlights 

A dominant forth quarter from the Israeli side leaves Bursaspor bottom of F. 

C.J. Harris was put in an MVP perfomance with 25 points, 6 assists and 1 rebound as the Israeli side took what was a fairly close game in the first three quarters and put it to bed in style in the 4th. With a 15-0 scoring run in the last period. Holon dominated the paint with 42 points to Bursaspor’s 22.  

 


Anthony Brown was the good news story for Bursaspor putting up 22 points and 7 rebounds as well as 2 blocks for the Turkish side.

JDA Bourgogne Dijon – BK Opava 99-64 Recap & Game Highlights 

A straight forward win for Dijon keeps them perfect in Group B. 
 
From the outset Dijon dominated the game in a one sided game that saw the French team lead after 25 seconds and not give it up once until the final buzzer. 42 points from the paint and an impressive 38 from the bench. 



 
Cameron Hunt led the way with the scoring with 21 points for Dijon but Allan Dokossi may have had the stand out performance with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals for the French side who have now secured a top three spot in their group. 
 
In a tough night for BK Opava, Adam Pechacek stood out with a team high points total of 16 and 9 rebounds.

Rytas Vilnius - Promitheas Patras 77-75 

Heroics from Rytas Vilnius’ R. J. Cole saw the Lithuanian side get a crucial win stopping Dijon from taking one of the first two qualification spots and taking their record to 2-2 with two back to back Ws.

 


 
R. J. Cole firstly levelled up the game at 75 each before driving through the Promitheas side to get the winning basket with seconds remaining on the clock. But the game was about more than just Cole. Margiris Normantas took the MVP award for Rytaswith 16 points, 1 rebound and 4 assists in a game that looked like it was getting away from Promitheas until a 10-0 scoring got them right back in it in the 4th quarter to set up a tight finish.  
 
For Promitheas the stand out player was unquestionably Chris Coffey, the American putting up 19 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists for the Greek side.

Bertram Derthona Tortona – Tofas Bursa 91-85 Recap & Game Highlights 

Tortona stay perfect but given a real scare by Tofas on game day 4 in group H.  
 
The game was taken to overtime after Kyle Weems missed the game-winning shot right on the buzzer.


The points were shared around by the home side, with no less than 7 men taking their scoring into double digits with Baldasso (17), Thomas (16) , Dowe (14), Radosevic (12), Obasohan, Weems and Severini (10 each) all hitting the mark.  
 
The perforamance and the results sees Tortona qualify from Group H and we’ll be seeing them in the BCL in the new year. 
 
Tofas has J.J O’Brien to thank for taking the game to overtime with a bucket 5 seconds from time and an overall performance that saw him lead the way in points (16) and assists (3) for his team.

Galatasaray Ekmas – Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem 70-85 Recap & Game Highlights 

The group G clash was played behind closed doors and the Israeli team were never really tested by Galatasaray, leading for almost the entire match and pushing that advantage in scoring runs at the end of the second and third quarters to keep any potential comeback out of reach.  


 
Jerusalem fully utilised their squad, with 57 points coming from their bench, including Khadeen Carrington who tied with Levi Randolph on 17 points a piece. Maurice Ndour and Brynton Lemar also got into double figures for the team.  
 
The Lions standout player was Ismet Akpinar who despite being on the losing side still managed to be the game’s top scorer with 18 points, complimented by 3 rebounds and a pair of assists.
